The Pretrial Release Program continually seeks to screen all un-sentenced defendants in the custody of the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility and provide all the courts in Rensselaer County with information to assist the judiciary in making release and bail decisions to reduce unnecessary pretrial detention and subsequently provide supervision to those released to the program to minimize failure to appear rates.  The program also supervises a significant amount of direct court releases in lieu of any pretrial detention.  As a result, the un-sentenced population is significantly reduced, as well as the associated costs.  Lastly, defendants with identified needs are referred to a network of community resources for services at the investigative/intake stage for alcohol/substance abuse, mental health, veteran, and Drug Court services, where deemed appropriate, regardless of release status.
