This program began operation in 1985. The Community Service model allows individuals convicted of a non-violent, low level crime to receive an appropriate sentence which provides pay back to the community where the crime occurred. This also avoids sentencing these individuals to jail, thereby saving the county the cost of incarceration. Individuals referred to the ATI program are screened for eligibility to participate which includes a criminal history review and verification that the individual is at least 16 years old. Once deemed eligible to participate, individuals are assessed during a one-on-one interview to determine the individual’s abilities, interests, availability and timeframes stipulated by the courts for completion of services. Placements are set along with dates for beginning and completing community service. Progress is reported to the court upon completion or failure to complete any of these steps.
