Legislative Member Items

Legislative Member Items are awards that are sponsored by either the State Assembly or Senate and are assigned to DCJS for administration. The CLLS team monitors contract compliance and provides technical assistance to individual grantees. These programs cover all aspects of the criminal justice system including law enforcement, defense, juvenile justice, and senior citizen security programs. Examples of funded programs include the Prisoners Legal Services, Empire Justice, Legal Aid Society, and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Most of the awards are made to community based not-for-profit groups to support the implementation of various crime prevention strategies, and civil and criminal legal assistance to the indigent.
