Aerosol Subject Restraint Course

Basic Course for Police Officers or the appropriate Basic Course for Peace Officers course required by an officer's classification.
Program Overview
The course provides training on chemical agents specifically oleoresin capsicum and is divided into three sections. The course is a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on practical experience. The student will have the opportunity to practice the knowledge gained in a non-threatening environment.

Program Overview
This program prepares MPTC certified instructors in the history of chemical sprays, selection, safety, effectiveness, hand held personal delivery systems, methods of carry, operational guidelines, in custody deaths, case studies and decontamination. The course includes both classroom instruction and practical exercises. Student exposure to OC spray at the instructor level is mandated. This is not a chemical agent instructor course.

Chemical Agent Instructor Course

Program Overview
This program prepares MPTC certified instructors in the history of all types of chemical agents, selection, safety, effectiveness, gas masks, gas guns, gas grenades, other delivery systems, operational guidelines, tactical use, distraction devices, in-custody deaths, case studies and decontamination. The course includes both classroom instruction and practical exercises.

Firearms Instructor Course

Prerequisites
MPTC Instructor certification, successful completion of the Basic Course for Police Officers or Basic Course for Peace Officers, and three years experience in a police or peace officer position that requires carrying a firearm
Program Overview
This program prepares MPTC certified instructors to teach numerous issues pertaining to firearms including, safety, instructional techniques, shooting fundamentals, tactics, revolvers, semi automatic pistols, shotguns, ammunition, equipment, use of force, critical incident trauma and legal issues. The program is presented in the classroom and the firearms range.

Instructor Development Course

54 to 70 hours (depending on the number of students)

Program Overview
This course will give officers the ability to research, prepare and communicate knowledge in the field of law enforcement. Lessons focus on setting instructional objectives, factors that influence adult learning, communication skills, the instructional process, and methods of evaluating course effectiveness. Successful students will receive certification for General Topics. The course is offered by local law enforcement agencies and academies. This important course is a prerequisite for other instructor courses since it covers basic instructional techniques.

Instructor Evaluator Workshop

MPTC certified Instructor and three years of instructing experience
Program Overview
This workshop is designed to provide experienced instructors with the skills necessary to conduct periodic evaluations of other instructors as mandated by the Municipal Police Training Council. These periodic and impartial evaluations will aid in ensuring the quality of law enforcement instruction throughout the state remains high. The training workshop provides information in several topical areas of instructor evaluation including: Criteria denoting an instructor pursuant to New York State Codes, Rules and Regulations (NYCRR), stages of an instructor evaluation process and objectively evaluating a presentation.

Physical Fitness Instructor Course

MPTC Instructor certification, successful completion of the Basic Course for Police Officers or Basic Course for Peace Officers, and must meet the 70th percentile of the MPTC approved Physical Fitness Standards for Police Officer Candidates.
Program Overview

This program prepares MPTC certified instructors to teach numerous issues pertaining to physical fitness training including training safety, instructional techniques, nutrition, physical and emotional well being, fitness training techniques, fitness testing protocols and legal issues.

The program is presented in the classroom and the gym.

Some local civil service agencies utilize graduates for entry level physical fitness assessment testing.
