Law File Changes - December 21, 2009

Notes: Laws added to the file since the last posting on July 13, 2009 begin with relative address/law ordinal 7986. Be aware, however, that changes/corrections have been made to existing laws. A summary is shown below, but may not be complete. We recommend that you overwrite the existing law file with the new one.

           The following changes will be made in the future to the DCJS coded law file (ASCII) downloadable format:
           1) The NCIC descriptors and the associated law ordinals will no longer be available.
           2) The internal law title will be eliminated. The internal law title is a 4 digit numeric code assigned to the
               class and category of the internal relative address.

The subdivisions relating to the alcohol and cigarette tax laws were re-designated.

Legislation:

Major legislative initiatives include the following. (Note: This is not a comprehensive list of every bill which has
been enacted this session).

Chapter 403(bill S3619-A) amended the vehicle and traffic law by adding a new section 1225-d, in relation to the use of a portable electronic device.

Chapter 496(bill S66008) amended the vehicle and traffic law and the penal law, in relation to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs with a child as a passenger and to amend the executive law, in relation to installation of an ignition interlock device.

Chapter 338(bill S5766) amended the environmental conservation law, in relation to the sale of certain wild animals.

Chapter 482(bill S6091) Provides that a person is guilty of aggravated murder when such person causes the death of a child and acted in an especially cruel and wanton manner.
